Take some time to unplug and take a mindful walk to calm the mind and body.

Mindful walking has many benefits. Not only are there physical benefits of walking in itself, such as reducing blood pressure and heart rates, creating feelings of wellbeing, providing better sleep, improving moods and managing stress, but mindful walking can also help us to be present in the moment and focus on the happenings around us.

Mindful walking simply means walking while being aware of each step and of our breath. It can be done anywhere, whether you are alone in nature, or with others in your home or neighbourhood. (Article by Teresa Clark-Jones, Michigan State University Extension – June 23, 2014)

Challenge:

  • Take some time today to unplug and take a walk! Wherever you go, try to name what you hear. Name what you see. Name what you smell. This is a great activity to ground yourself.
  • Mindful Walk. Go for a walk with your family. Walk silently listening to the sounds around you. When you hear a new sound stop, identify the sound. Reflect on the sounds you like. What sounds make you happy? Sad? Scared?
