Physical Fitness: Aerobic and Strength Building Exercises

Today we are going to do an Alphabet Workout! Working out should be fun! When something is fun, it motivates you to want to do it and will get you excited about exercising. Today’s activity requires very little equipment. All you need is some sidewalk chalk and your creativity. If you don’t have chalk, you can simply jot down your ideas on paper and read off of your notes.

You will be creating today’s alphabet workout. Need some ideas? Watch the video linked here from #DPAEveryday.

  1. Grab some chalk and go onto the sidewalk, driveway or any paved space that is safe with no cars.
  2. In every sidewalk block, you will write a letter of the alphabet or two per block, and beside the letter you will write the exercise that you will do.
  3. Here are some examples:
    A= Arm circles (x10)
    B= Balance on one foot (for 30 seconds each leg)
    C= Calf Raises (x10)
    D= Donkey Kicks (x10)
    E= Elbow Side Plank (for 30 seconds)
    F= Forward and backward jump, and so on….
  4. Complete the alphabet and all the exercises. Do them with a family member. Have fun!

If doing this workout inside, or on the grass in your backyard, simply write your Alphabet Exercises on paper and complete them in alphabetical order. You can also have a partner read out the alphabet and exercises that you will do. When you complete all 26 exercises, switch roles.
