Students will be introduced to four different speakers (all me) who will give their opinions on climate change. The speakers will guide the students to make notes in a booklet to support their positions. Students will have the opportunity to question the speakers, and challenge them on what is being said. Some of the program will take place outdoors.
Notes for teachers:
This program needs students to be active listeners and participants. The speakers have completely opposing views, and they cannot all be right. Sometimes the students nod acceptingly for all of the speakers. One of the speakers makes the most sense, and students need to figure that out. This program could use follow-up in the classroom to flesh out the arguments that are presented. This is a half-day program which is followed by cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. If there is no snow, we can have an orienteering session or structure building.
