Given a tarp and ropes, students will work in groups in the forest to construct a shelter that is large enough for their group to sit in. Students will sit in their structure for ten minutes with a thermometer and measure temperature. After ten minutes, the class will tour as a group and each structure will be evaluated by the teacher and outdoor education instructor. The afternoon will consist of cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. If there is no snow, we can have an orienteering session, or a climate change program.
Notes for teachers:
Please divide your class into five groups for this program. It is helpful to have a parent volunteer with each group. Warm dress is essential for this program.
