Generating and Collecting Ideas

Do you ever feel like you are out of ideas to write about? Ideas are all around us. Be an idea collector – be on the lookout for possible ideas and topics!

We will continue to explore some strategies this week to help you collect ideas that you might use as a writer.

Can you find a place to keep all of your ideas in one spot? Maybe a notebook that you have at your house? Perhaps you can make a notebook out of paper? Be creative as you think of where you might collect your ideas!

Families:

Help your child to find an object that matters to them. Perhaps it is a special stuffed toy, a gift from a special relative, a special blanket or something else. Help them to look at it really closely, looking at it part by part. Use all five senses!

What does each part look like?
What does it sound like? Think of as many descriptions as possible.
What does it feel like?
What does it taste like? (Maybe not for every object!)
What does it remind you of?
How does it make you feel?

Keep these ideas in your idea collection! You never know when you might need the ideas about this special object as a writer.
