Generating and Collecting Ideas

A group of children dancing with their arms above their heads.

Writers are often inspired by images or photographs.

Families:

Share this photograph with your child. Encourage your child to look closely at the picture. Together, try to experience the moment as one of the people in the photo. What do you think you would hear? See? Feel? Smell? Does your child have different ideas than you do?

Take turns storytelling the moment you see in the photo. Who might the people be? What might it be like to be in this moment? You could pretend to be someone in this photo (e.g., “I jumped as high as I could) or you could tell the story from outside of the moment (e.g., “The children clapped their hands).

Have fun storytelling together!
