Generating and Collecting Ideas
Sometimes writers collect ideas that are about feelings
Listen to the story The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires. In this story the author has turned an experience of a girl feeling really, really mad into a story about never giving up.
Families:
Help your child to think of some ideas of times that they felt strong feelings. Collecting these ideas might turn into a poem, a story, or even a persuasive piece of writing someday.
You could take turns talking about these ideas using sentence starters like…
“I felt excited when…”
“A time when I was scared was…”
“I felt sad when…”
“When…I felt really angry!”
If your child is collecting ideas in a notebook, they might collect these “feeling” ideas in a chart like this one:
Feeling | Idea |
---|---|
Excited | |
Worried | |
Afraid | |
Angry | |
Sad |
