Generating and Collecting Ideas
Did you know that writers get ideas from other writers?
Families:
Children often have favourite books that they love to read over and over again. Sometimes these stories are favourites because we connect to the characters, or they remind us of things that happened to us, or of places we have been. Sometimes they are about topics that we know a lot about.
Encourage your child to choose a book that they love, and enjoy reading it together, or have your child read to you if they are able. Your child might also choose to listen again to a book that your family has listened to on the WRDSB@Home website.
Talk with your child about why they love the book they chose.
Some prompts for conversation:
- Does a character remind you of anyone?
- What do you think happens next? (after the story ends)
- Do you disagree with anything in the book?
- What else do you know about this topic?
The answers to some of these questions just might be the next best idea for a piece of writing!
